A Chain of Events Created A Nasty RLS Day

In my previous article titled "The Road Less Traveled Allows for Stretching," I talked about an upcoming trip to another town for a medical test. Well, that day has come and gone; it ended up being a nasty RLS day, and a long day at that.

Upstairs renovations woke us earlier than expected

There was an old lady who lived in the apartment above mine who passed away. On the day of the test, renovations on the unit above us started up very early in the morning.

We didn't even know that the renovations were happening that day, and the first renovation they did was the floors. I don't know if you've ever heard that before, but it involves an enormous amount of banging.

My husband and I both suffer from chronic migraines

I have lived with constant headaches since 2009, and I literally do mean constant. The longest I've gone without feeling a headache is 10 seconds. I get migraines really easily as a result of having a constant headache. Plus, a migraine medication I was once prescribed back in 2009 made me permanently more sensitive to light.

My husband has suffered from migraines since he was a toddler, maybe even as a baby, due to a traumatic injury to his skull that he suffered in the womb. With the loud flooring work happening above us, we had to leave our apartment way earlier than we were planning to for the trip to another town. I dreaded this fact because it meant more time in the car, which meant more RLS agony.

It also meant that it was going to be a lot longer of a day. I had a feeling that there was going to be a really good chance that I was also going to suffer from a migraine while away from home.

Passing the time before my appointment

We got ready as fast as we could for the trip, making sure we had everything, and left our home. When we finally arrived in another town, my legs were giving me such grief and a migraine was just starting to take form.

We were in the town 3 hours before my appointment, and because of my IBS, we headed to a park that had a public bathroom to pass the time. When we first got to the park, we saw that there was some construction happening that thankfully was just wrapping up. We stayed in the car until all the construction equipment was put away, even though my legs were killing me because of the RLS.

A migraine attack left me exhausted

After about 20 minutes we were able to finally leave the car and slowly start to move around, giving my legs the much-needed walk. Unfortunately, about 10 minutes later, the migraine attacked with such malice and strength that I ended up throwing up in the park right where we were without much of a warning.

I was grateful things calmed down enough after that, and I was able to get through the medical test without any problems. I was so exhausted and still had the hour-and-a-half to almost 2-hour long drive home ahead of me. My husband grabbed takeout and quickly ate his dinner before we began the journey home.

I was extremely grateful when we finally got home. I crawled straight into bed and thankfully the sheer exhaustion had me passing out before my RLS could kick in for round 3.
