Creative Activities Temporary Relief

After 40 plus years of RLS and a variety of medications, over the last 8 years or so I had been using Pramipexol successfully for 24 hours of relief. The relief time began to wane periodically and my doctor allowed an increase to 3 tablets at night. The result worked for another couple years but then continued to decline to inconsistent times and hours, which is where I am now. I am trying to concentrate and document times and potential triggers. One thing I ran across was the mention of RLS and kidney disease which I am beginning to research. In the meantime, I have noticed that when I play the piano during these episodes, during that 45 minutes to an hour playing the piano I usually experience zero symptoms. Sometimes it allows me to sleep through the night, sometimes it lasts awhile, but resumes as soon as I get in bed. It seems like the difference is how tired I am. Bear in mind that I continue to take 2 pramipexole tablets and an additional one only when absolutely necessary that I get some sleep. My question is, does anyone on the forum find that a creative activity has given some measure of relief? I often play word games on a tablet that will work but not as thoroughly.

  1. How interesting that playing the piano brings you relief, . I hope others chime in with their own experiences. I wonder if piano playing increases your dopamine levels and if that might be a factor.
You must be frustrated that Pramipexol is not as effective as it once was. Could you be experiencing augmentation? Here is an article that explains augmentation if you are not familar with it: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/living/tips-manage-augmentation.
