RLS

My dad suffered with this horrible illness. I inherited it as I got into my 30's and it only gets worse as I get older. It has been so bad, that I have wanted too take my own life!!!! My family Scruggs it off as no biggie, I only wish they could experience it for one day. Too see what I go through almost daily. God bless all of you RLS sufferers as I feel your pain.❤

  1. Hi all. I've suffered for restless leg syndrome since I was 25. I'm 47 now and still have it. I had problems with drugs too. Heroin. I'm sober now. I say this because the medication I use for my addiction accidentally resolved my RLS. I mean I can fall asleep without the restless legs. I don't suffer for it anymore with this medicine. But you have to ask your doctor if the medicine can be precribed to you, because is a medicine for addited people. But it worked for me.. I say it because everybody said it has no cure but I accidentally found this.
I take Suboxone. That's the name of the medicine. Suboxone.
Ask your doctor if you can take it. I know the pain os RLS and thought I was living with it for ever.. This is just me trying to help, I am no doctor. It works for me. I hope this help someone 😳

    1. Hi there. What an accomplishment with your sobriety! And it's great to hear that your treatment is also helping provide relief from your RLS. Thank you for suggesting others talk to their doctors about this as a potential treatment - because it is an opioid partial agonist, it may fall into the same types of conversations around opioids to treat RLS, which can be a tricky one. But, for anyone else reading, here is an article with a bit more information on opioids and RLS: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment/opioids. Thanks again for being a part of our RLS community! Warmly, Alyssa (Team Member)

    2. Hi. As I live in Portugal, here the doctors seem to dont recognize RLS, and the ones who do say that there is no cure and I've learned how to endure with it in my life. I don't know any person with RLD too, so I browsed the web looking for cures, that's how I found this forum.
As I found that my treatment 'solved' my RLD I came here to share the info as I know how dificult it is to live with it.
But yes, as I said, Suboxone is opiod. I don't know if it can be prescribed to people who was not on addiction before, and I dont know also if people can take it without the body known addiction before... It works for me, but you have to ask your doctors.
      Hope it helps.

  2. I am so sorry that your family does not understand what you are going through and just shrugs it off. I know how heartbreaking and unfair that is.

I am sorry to hear that your RLS has only gotten worse and that you have thought about taking your own life as a result, I can't even imagine what that must be like.

I am very happy you are here and have found us! Please lean on us any and every time you need it!!! Vent your heart out!

    Sending positive vibes your way
