Medical marijuana

My daughter thinks I should get a card and try the medical marijuana. She says it would help my RLS as well as the pain I suffer with daily. Has anyone tried this and did it work for you. would I be wasting time and money to do this?

  1. I have been taking 7ml of medical cannabis at bedtime for several years now, in the form of cannabis oil, which has 12 parts of CBD to 10 parts of THC. My treatment is overseen by a doctor from a licensed medical cannabis clinic.
This worked fairly well to keep the RLS at bay for quite a while, but lately it doesn't seem to be quite as effective as it used to be, so I'll probably need to increase the dose.
I also use CBD gummies that I can buy OTC here in England, as these are useful if I feel stressed or twitchy during the day.

    1. , yes, when I first went to the doctor about it I was given Gabapentin but I had read a lot about augmentation and I didn't want to get caught in that trap so I tok oly a few doses and then stopped. For a while, after I started using the cannabis oil, I was completely free of RLS, which was wonderful. Lately, I have been getting a little patch of it when I wake in the very early hours to go to the bathroom, but I have also developed very painful osteo-arthritis in my hip and it is also that which is making it hard to go back to sleep again.

    2. Ugh, that's a shame. Just when you start to get one thing under control, something else pops up to cause problems! It sounds like you've been really diligent with learning all you can about treatments before jumping in. That's the best thing you can do, and I'm glad you've been able to avoid augmentation. It's certainly not easy. I'm glad you were able to get into the cannabis clinic, though I can imagine that was a costly choice. Sometimes, the investment is worth it!

Thanks for sharing more about your experience. I hope your hip behaves more often so that you can sleep with more comfort. Hugs! -Melissa, team member

    1. I have been using medical cannabis for several years and it does help with relaxing as long as the strain has CBD (to help sleep) and CBN (for pain). With that said, it does not get rid of it! I have suffered with RLS since I was a child. It has gone away, sometimes for years. I’m about to turn 71 and it has been very bad for the last ten years. I hope this helps.

      1. Thanks so much for chiming in on this. There's still so much to learn about CBD and RLS. Having a firsthand experience really helps the community. -Melissa, team member
