Need other alternatives.

I am from the United kingdom, I was diagnosed with RLS around 20 years ago when I was in my early 40's, since then I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, tonic clonic epilepsy, IBS, angina, insomnia, colitis and recently COPD, I take over 30 tablets a day, now for my RLS I take ropinerole, one slow release 8my tablet & up to six 1mg tablets a day I also have routine patches, one 3my patch a day.
They do not work but my doctor said there is nothing else they can do for me.
When I am having a bad day with my M.S I can be bed bound but if my legs start jumping I have too drag myself out of bed because I have to stand up, on one occasation this caused me to have a seizure, I don't know what else to do, I am struggling badly but my doctor says there is nothing else that can be done.....

  1. Thank you lori, I understand what your saying and I never thought of it in that way, if my progression can help with my RLS well that for me would be a good thing in a strange sort of way, well not a good thing but it would help me in as way, thanks for replying.

    1. Hi, . You are enduring so much! It's hard enough to manage one chronic illness, let alone several, and I hear how exhausted you are.

The trouble you're facing with ropinerole is very common, unfortunately. It doesn't work for every person, and those that it does help usually require increasing doses over time.

Was RLS your first medical condition? I am not an expert, but I wonder if the severity of your RLS is connected to your other conditions. RLS is often seen in people with MS, for example.

Here is an article that covers the various categories of treatments that may help with RLS.

Again, there is no magic bullet. But maybe there is something in that article you hadn't considered yet, or a combination of things could be useful.

      1. My heart goes out to you, . You have so much to contend with. The brain and the Central Nervous System are still such mysteries to us despite all the knowledge we have developed over these past few decades. You never know when something might come along that helps. I know this sounds odd, but I wonder if, someday, your MS progression might lead to RLS relief. My father got relief from mental illness as his MS progressed. His neurologist believed he happened to develop a new lesion in just the right place. I wouldn't wish progression on anyone, but if you have to progress, it sure would be a nice side effect. Please know we are here for you whenever you need us. Thinking of you and wishing you the best. - Lori (Team Member)
