Restless legs

Mine got worse after weight loss surgery don't know which nights I will have it but it doesn't start till I lay down to go to sleep and goes thru the night till morning

  1. I am sorry to hear that your RLS has gotten worse after having surgery.

I got RLS around 9 or 10yrs old but when I hit puberty, it stopped being an issue. When I had my gall bladder removed in my 20s, my RLS came back with a vengeance.

I read a study a while back that talked about how surgery and even general anesthesia can exacerbate RLS .... "Perioperative procedures, including general anesthesia, can cause exacerbations of RLS" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7780259/ When I had to have a minor surgery last year, I told the anesthesiologist that I have RLS so he made sure that I got a form of anesthesia that doesn't bother RLS.

    1. I will thanks

      1. @Dawnwilliams, keep a dialogue open with that doctor. Certainly it could be coincidence that this started after your weight loss surgery, but it certainly could be connected.

If your weight loss surgeon doesn’t have ideas, talk to your general practitioner and see what they think. Possibly a visit to a neurologist or sleep specialist is in order.

Keep advocating for you. I’m a believer there are answers out there. Maybe someone else in the group has been through something similar and can share their experience.

Keep us in the loop! We can’t wait to hear about improvement, but also want to support you as you are on the journey.
