Twitching

Hello I'm new! But not new to the hell of RLS!!!
52 and progressive,.currently on 2 mg of ropinale a day. Seems to work if I take it before the hell begins. However some weeks it starts early to mid day. My question today is do any of you experience leg spasms, mine starter along side hell gate about 8 months ago. My legs spasm and I can see them pulsating and twitching and this can last all day long for weeks on end then I have a bit of a rest and then she pipes up again. I'm obviously concerned as my neurological doctor has asked me to go for an electric test, now I think I've got ASL. But are these spasms amd twitching just another unfortunate part of the progression. I'm at my witts end. But obviously I would like it to just be rls and nothing more serious.

  1. Welcome Willow! You are in good company! I can't put my hands on anything in the archives right now, but I have a distinct memory of seeing other people here share about spasming, visibly rippling muscles. So that doesn't answer the question of what to do, but it might at least add some weight to the hope that it's "just" RLS and not something else. Of course, definitely go through the process of ruling things out because we aren't doctors and can't give medical advice. Glad you're here, reach out anytime! -Melissa, team member

    1. Welcome, ! I'm glad you found this community. I can understand why you are so concerned. It's scary when new symptoms arise. Spasms like that can be symptomic of serious diseases, like ALS, but they can also be caused by something as simple as a lack of electrolytes. As hard as it is, try not to worry much just yet. Here is an article from one health leader who has period limb movement disorder along with RLS: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/living/mystery-plmd. Here is another article about health conditions that can mimic RLS: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/living/mimics. Have you been on ropinale long? It is also important to know that ropinale use can lead to augumentative, which cause worsening symptoms. Here is an article about augmentation: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/augmentation. I hope these articles help and that others chime in with their own experiences. Please keep us updated if you don't mind. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
