Any tips on alternatives to taking tablets for RLS?

HI can anyone recommend an alternative to pills? Anyone using herbal products. It seems all the pills that I take make you sleepy. I am totally fed up with with falling asleep during the evenings. Doctors have the impression that this condition affects you at bedtime, but it's not the case, as I am suppose to take my medication 2-3 hours before bedtime. I am currently taking Pramipexole. Amitriptyline. Codine, and some other tablets that was recommended by a consultant that I am on a waiting list to see. I get RLS anytime I am resting, after lunch, after evening meals. This RLS attracts mainly the right foot and not the legs? I sometimes soak my feet in a bowl of cold water, not very pleasant. Sometimes even after a couple of hours it still plays up. I am currently awaiting to see a Consultant, but will it be this year or next!! I think my Doctors are not interested as it is not life threatening. Can anyone help? and how do you manage.

  1. Thanks Ray. for your reply, and the links to the other sites. Magnesium Citrate is suppose to help. It helped me at the beginning, I am thinking of going back on this. Best regards Joe

    1. Yes, magnesium can help. I take 2 150mg pills a night when I take my Pregabalin. I hope you find it helps you. If you don't mind, can you keep us updated? Thank you.

      Wishing you all the best

  2. Thank you so much for reaching out.

I'm mostly reliant on pregabalin for my RLS symptoms but before being on this medication I did find a heating pad and hot showers could help offer temporary relief.

I too would start to experience RLS symptoms in the daytime when being inactive, especially when sitting. Cars were one of the worst spots for me, after half an hour I would need to stretch.

There is this article about devices that can help with RLS https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment/devices

I, unfortunately, have also experienced doctors who don't seem as interested in getting answers because what you are experiencing isn't life-threatening. It can be very frustrating and maddening.

I wish you good luck. Please keep us updated if you can.
