Does anyone suffer from burning feet along with their restless legs?

In the evening when my legs start to act up, my feet will start burning like I have a sunburn on them and I was wondering if anyone else has this problem.

  1. Glad you have found some relief!👍🏻 I’m now on 5 mg Oxy at bedtime bc Baclofen & Amitriptyline did very little…I’m also on 100 mg of Trazadone. I had restless leg syndrome but it stopped then came the spasms in my legs (& low back) that make me wake up screaming! I have to get out of bed & walk it off plus apply Biofreeze. I hadn’t slept a full nights sleep in years. I think my Fibro, Spondylosis & intense low back (L3,4&5) add to sleepless nights. So far the Oxy helps about 5 out of 7 nights per week!

    1. Hi . I am glad you at least have the oxy to get you through the nights. Have you tried any other medications or alternative forms of treatment? Here is an article about RLS treatments: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. Maybe you will find something in the article you haven't tried yet that helps. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

  2. I've had burning sensations on the soles of my feet for about 18 mths. I don't have diabetes and my neurologist diagnosed it as RLS. It can start whilst sitting with my feet up in the evening and can go on for a couple of hours after getting into bed, returning if I'm lying awake later in the night. An awful lot of sleep has been lost. It seemed to become less of a problem when I took iron supplements for a while, but that exacerbated my slow-transit constipation issue. The only thing that ever prevents the RLS symptoms is Lorazepam, but I can't take that more than 2-3 x per week for fear of getting addicted to it. I also took Pregabalin for 6 mths but that ultimately seemed to lose its effectiveness and made me feel dopey until lunchtime the next day. Can't win!

    1. Thanks Melissa. I think the equivalent of Miralax in Australia is Movocol and yes I do take that from time to time. However it seems to exacerbate the nausea I've been getting lately from my longstanding Irritable Bowel Syndrome (C), especially now that my gastroenterologist has put me on Prucalopride for the constipation. I'm just waiting for that medication to hopefully take effect, then see if I can resume iron supplements or if not, perhaps I can ask about getting an iron infusion. I note the Mayo Clinic recommends iron for RLS here:

    2. I will cross my fingers that everything goes well, then. FYI, we do have an IBS community if you're looking for more support or ideas if the prucalopride isn't a good fit. You can find the site at https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net.

Best of luck to you. Keep us posted! -Melissa, team member

  3. I also suffer with RLS, burning feet and leg numbness. The RLS for over 25 years and the burning feet for the last 4 years. The numbness started about a year ago. There is one treatment that has all but stopped the RLS. Unfortunately, it is not one that most doctors will do. I have been going to Dr. Michael Valpiani for about 10 years. Recently. He has put me in treatment that has changed my life. It is microburst insulin infusion. It emulates what the pancreas should do. It takes 3 hours a week but more than worth it.

    1. This is interesting. I'm so glad you've found something that helps you! Can you tell us a little about how this treatment works to help restless leg symptoms? Do you also have diabetes or insulin resistance? Curious to know more if you're comfortable sharing. Be well! -Melissa, rls team.

  4. My husband experiences burning feet at night with RLS. I rub over the counter generic lidocaine cream on his feet wherever the burning is - it does relieve the burning so that he can sleep. Of course the cream is a temporary but effective fix.

    1. How awesome to have such great support from you, . I am glad the lodocaine is effective and that he is able to sleep, at least for a bit. Thanks for sharing what helps. - Lori (Team Member)
