As far as i have seen, the topic of supplements as a way to counter the syndrome has not been as evaluated as the topic of synthetic drugs.
I have shared my whole story in the appropriate section, but i don't know why it has not been added yet.
By the way, i left with the suspended judgement about the supplements i was just beginning to take (1 month ago).
These supplements are:
- B12 Vitamin in its purest form (Cyanocobalamin)
- Folic Acid in tablets
- Iron supplements, enriched with C Vitamin and Folic Acid.
Now all of these supplements were preceded by a tea spoon of Mucuna pruriens powder (L-dopa natural source), which seemed to be the only thing to help.
Strangely enough, taking more powder seemed to have a counter effect where my symptoms became worse (augmentation like), this is what has led me to think that i felt discreetly good when i took just a normal tea spoon of it, so returning to that dose normalized everything again.
But i was still not feeling adequately well, so this is why i considered trying the only supplements which seemed to be logical.
We know that the only people that seem to "heal" from the syndrome are pregnant women, where they begin to have the symptoms at the early stages of pregnancy, only to have a complete remission of them just after birth of the child.
And what do these pregnant women lack more than everything?
Folic Acid, Iron and often B12 Vitamin too.
So my thesis is that, probably these nutrients become more important because the unborn child starts taking them up from the mother's organism for its developement, and this is why they have to be increased, and just like that, the RLS works in a similar way whereas the brain (probably) starts having troubles absorbing these components that are apparently sufficiently present in the blood, but are not absorbed quite sufficiently by the brain.
So this is why increasing the availability of them, may compensate this issue and make the situation better.
This is what happened to me, but the important thing is the timing of the assumption.
I have tried the first days, taking them after breakfast but i really could not see the results i hoped for.
What has worked almost wonders for me at least, is shifting the assumption to the late evening, after dinner (about 9-10 PM and later)
Let me tell you, that i could not do without the Mucuna powder as not taking it made my life and bed time horrible, but after the new supplements, not only the powder finished and i did not feel the need to order it again, but for the rest i could not believe it, and i still cannot.
I went to sleep the first night of taking them late, and i fell asleep in 10-15 minutes after god knows how long the last time this happened.
And so the subsequent nights, i also took a couple of melatonin herbal tea, and it practically fixed my sleep.
Now i am able to feel sleepy at around 11 and half PM, and i easily fall asleep after laying on my bed.
I feel relaxed, i feel that my sleep is restful and i finally get up rested and in good mood again.
Now obviously i still get a few annoying sensations now and then, but they are not really comparable to what i was experiencing before (pinching, chills, electrical currents, muscle spasms...).
Now probably what is working for me, may not work as well for others, but i believe sharing my experience may help someone so, the amount of the supplements i am taking is really the normal amount recommended.
Vitamin B12: at least 1000 mcg (sometimes 1200) after dinner.
Folic Acid: 800 mcg for two tablets (plus the other 300 i get from the enriched iron supplements)
Iron + Folic Acid + C Vitamin: 21 mcg Iron, 90 mcg C Vitamin, 300 mcg Folic Acid.
When choosing the supplements i really just made the quality and convenience the two factors of choice.
So i took well reviewed products (from Amzn) and i also looked for long lasting packs, but these kind of evaluations are obviously personal.
