RLS and surgery

Recently had knee replacement surgery. My RLS is usually fairly well controlled with Requip. Hospital was totally unaware of the impact of RLS on my life and the potentially painful and possibly dangerous impact post surgery. I ended up in very severe pain with possible damage to the incision and surrounding tissues and it cost me an extra day in the hospital. Has anyone any experiece with this or advice?

  1. Hi . How discouraging and painful that must have been. RLS can make surgery of any kind extra painful and difficult, but few doctors outside of sleep medicine and neurology have any training in RLS. So I can see why you didn't receive the considerations you needed and deserved. Your are not alone. A member, , commented on another post earlier today about incredible pain after suffering a broken hip thanks to RLS. Weighted blankets turned out to be the solution. The weight stopped the RLS symptoms and allowed the hip to recover. I hope you get input from other members here and that the rest of your recovery is quick and uneventful. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)
