When do you usually go to sleep?

I have opened this discussion because i haven't been able to find a similar topic on the forums, you can delete it if there's another similar discussion.

I have to say in short that i have been a night owl since my early teenage, having spent a lot of night hours till 3-4 AM playing Computer games and watching movies, this obviously affected my sleep patterns over time. Even though i had school on the weekends i would do this, and also during holidays until 18.

Today on theory i would be a moderate night owl because i go to sleep around 1:30, but obviously the neurological problems make me fall asleep at best around 3 AM, at worse in the morning.

Have you managed to find a good change by going to sleep earlier?

I find it very difficult because having to do house stuff after dinner i am not ready to sleep before half past midnight. Do you have any suggestions/experiences to share?

  1. Hi . There are lots of studies that show the best time to hit the sac is around 10 p.m., but that is obviously not possible or practical for everyone. Other medical issues, our lifestyles, our responsibilities, our eating habits, all kinds of factors can affect our abilities to fall asleep at certain times. Have you considered seeing a sleep specialist to help you change your patterns? Here is an article from our sister community for insomnia about treatments for people who have trouble falling or staying asleep: https://insomnia.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. You will find lots of alternative treatments there that might help along with advice about cognitive behavior therapy. I hope this helps. Best wishes. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. That depends, some people can function going to bed at 3, waking up at 7 or 8. But, if this causes you fatigue, lack of energy during the day, you might Benifit from seeing your local sleep specialist. If you can train your brain to shut down at a certain time, your body will have no problem going to bed consistently on a day to day basis. What your describing sounds alot like insomnia, though you probably knew that. Circadian low starts at around 2am, and lasts until 4am. So going to sleep at 3 because you can't before this time, tells me your body is waiting until it absolutely has to before shutting down. Do you work 2nd or 3rd shift?
