Chronic RLS

Hello. I'm 67 years old and have been suffering with RLS for about 20 years. I've tried all the prescription meds, including Requip, Pramipexole, Gabapentin, the patch, etc. None have worked without bad side effects. I'm trying Restavin now and nothing. My question is, can acupuncture for severe RLS? Thank you - Kevin

  1. Update on RLS & Acupuncture

    1. To All. I still haven't tried acupuncture, but here's an update: As I mentioned earlier, I've tried everything, everything, over the past 20 plus years. 3 weeks ago I tried weaning off of Pramipexole (4.5mg/day) on my own. It was a nightmare. I had heroin-like withdrawals for 2 weeks. Slept only 1 hour/night. Sweats, chills, shaking, etc. It was bad.

Went to see my Primary Doctor again last week. I'm now on 50mg of Tramadol/day and down to 3mg of Pramipexole. I'm sleeping 4-5 hours/night and no crawly legs at all. My goal is to be on 50mg of Tramadol every day -- and ZERO Pramipexole.

My questions to this awesome Forum are: 1. Has anyone done this? 2. If just Tramadol works, and my doctor will continue to prescribe this, is this ok?

I feel so much better right now, but who knows what's around the corner. I'm not going to get too excited just yet. I'm not nauseous or dizzy in the morning, and I have much more energy.

      Thanks for listening - Kevin

      1. This makes me so happy to read...well the part about almost feeling 'normal' again and that you are sleeping 4-6hrs. As normal as things get for you, right? I like to say "my normal" because I live with multiple diseases.

That's a bummer you have Ulcerative Colitis, I have IBS and didn't think about the possibility of the stress of things causing a flare-up, good thing to plan for to be on the safe side.

I am so very happy for you and excited that things are working out for you. I really hope things keep getting better for you.

Thank you for wishing me luck.

You can always private message me too if you want/need to talk about other things other than RLS.😀

        Take care

      2. I'm glad to hear that Tramadol can help you when you have breakthroughs from the RLS meds

    2. Ropinerol works for me to

      1. I get relief from ropinrole but sometimes nothing helps but the hot tub. Couldn’t do without either one.

        1. I take Ropinerol, als, but we know nothing always works. I have just discovered the hot bath to cut short severe symptoms. I have baths at 1, 2, 3 o'clock in the morning.
What a resource this forum is to spread any and all "tricks" that are so hard to come by!

        2. I have hot showers to help when things get bad, my bathtub is too small for a soak. I have a shower chair so I can just sit under the hot water.

I'm glad that you are finding this forum beneficial!
