options for treatment for PLMD

I was diagnosed with PLMD 4 years ago after a sleep study showed continual leg jerking throughout the night. My first doctor prescribed klonazapam, after being a zombie for a month I gave it up. My new doctor put me on ropinirole which worked but had side effects, fatigue and balance. After a month of chronic exhaustion from lack of sleep I have just started Lyrica.
My only symptom is chronic tiredness from a lack of quality sleep due to my jerking legs..
I have noticed a few things along this journey:
Alcohol and sugar are bad triggers, I am avoiding them.
I have reduced may caffeine intake, only 1 cup in the am.
Otherwise I do eat clean, no meat, dairy or processed foods.
??? ARE THERE OTHER SUGGESTIONS TO REDUCE MY PLMD SYMPTOMS? THANK YOU FOR ANY INPUT.

  1. Hi .
Here is an article about treatment for RLS that you might also find helpful: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. I hope others chime in with dietary and lifestyle changes that they have found helpful. Wishing you the very best. - Lori (Team Member)
