What are the best medications for RLS?

What are the best medications to deal with RLS?

  1. I was prescribed Gabapentin today at my doctor's appointment. I have a USPV Arterial Lower Extremity Bilateral scheduled for 17 December.

    1. Thanks, Lori. Yes, ma'am. I would love to have total relief. I'm getting on a plane to take a trip....st least a 3 hour trip. When I booked, I made sure to get outside seats in order to stretch my legs. I do have a leg massager as well. I intend to enjoy my birthday, so I'm doing everything that I can...and alongside my doctor, I believe that my relief is on the way🙏🏾

    2. Happy birthday weekend!! How was your test? -Melissa, team member

  2. Thank you. I'm very active in terms of exercise. My doctor stated that my blood work does not show that I'm iron deficient.

I have been reading and researching possible causes of RLS---and I have a doctor's appointment on Wednesday.

I'm curious as to how my doctor will treat me. This has definitely disrupted my quality of life.

    1. Hi, there. My visit to my doctor went very well. This doctor is my secondary doctor outside of the VA. I'm retired military(Army). She did draw additional labs for her own knowledge. I was prescribed Gabapentin. On the 17th of this month, I have an appointment to have a USPV Arterial Lower Bilateral conducted. My doctor had me to remove my shoes to feel my feet (which she stated were cold). Not sure if I have circulation issues or not.

    2. Thanks for your service! I'm glad you have a good doctor on your team helping you work this out. How is your VA care? I have retired military in my family and I am often frustrated with them -- sometimes I wish my loved one would go outside the system as well.

It's certainly the season for cold feet, and there are so many reasons that could be causing that, as you know. I'm curious to hear what you learn from your ultrasound. Keep us posted! -Melissa, team member

  3. Hi . That is difficult to say for sure. RLS can have different causes, making each case unique. So, different people respond differently to each medication. Here is an article about the most common treatments: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. I hope it helps. Have you tried any treatments yet? Warmly, Lori (Team Member)
