RLS Treatment

After fifty years and many doctors 2 months ago I asked my new doctor about RLS he immediately responded with a prescription for
pregabalin, this was a life changer, previously I was existing on 3-4 hours of broken sleep and walking around the house several times a night, now I sleep 7-8 hours a night with no restless legs.
I am 73 years and I have not had any adverse side effects from Pregabalin.

  1. I've had RLS since childhood, diagnosed at 48. I am now 70. I've been on everything starting from magnesium. For the past 12 years, I've been on Madopar for the pain, and Sifrol for the symptoms. I have been RLS pain and symptom free since. Is has been bliss.

    1. - Thanks for sharing a glimpse of your journey with everyone here. It sounds like you have been through a lot since you were diagnosed, but I am so glad to hear that you've free from pain and symptoms these past 12 years! That is really encouraging to hear!

  2. When l take my medicine, l get rls, it is so bad l feel like pulling my hair out of my head. I've tried each medicine by waiting on it, to see which one it is. Still have terrible RLS

    1. Hi, thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! It is so incredibly frustrating to have certain medications worsen your RLS symptoms without you knowing the specific cause. It can be difficult to predict which medications will have a negative impact on your symptoms, but if you haven't already, I would definitely recommend giving the following article a look! https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/clinical/drug-interactions

There are several drug types out there that are known to cause an increase in RLS symptoms, including anti-nausea medication and antihistamines (commonly taken for allergies).

I do hope you can identify these medication triggers that might be causing you worsened symptoms, and that you can find some relief soon!

  3. I've been using :

rOPINIRole 0.25 MG tablet x3 daily

rOPINIRole 3 MG tablet at bedtime

I do take Lyrica 150 mg x3 daily for my back

It seems to work but I have still been having muscle spasms in my lower legs, mostly.
I then break out the Ultra strength Tiger Balm and that really really makes a lot of difference..

Sometimes I do take a little extra 0.25 mg

    Good luck ❤️
    Maria

    2. I have been using Mirapex 1 mg generic name pramipexole dehydro for a number of years now and it has been helping for the most part. I still get break through Restless leg syndrome but it also seems to affect my arms and upper back as well. This has been a wonder drug for me.

  4. My Dr. Prescribed Gabapentin and it doesn’t help at all.

    1. Hello! It can be a bummer not to have prescription drugs to help with your symptoms. Have you talked to your doctor about potential alternative prescriptions? I definitely encourage you to communicate with your provider to discuss other potential options.
