Medication

I take ROPINIROLE 3mg. Is there any other medicine out there

  1. Hi, lford6343. I took Requip (Ropinirole) for several years when my RLS finally got so bad I was not sleeping at all. It worked well for about 5 years but then augmentation began. I was up to 4 mg daily but pretty quickly got down to 1 mg. That worked a little over a year until I began waking up after 2 hours of sleep, unable to do anything but walk around the house. In early June my dr. put me on a low dose of gabapentin and then raised it to 300 mg. every night. He said it can be increased as needed. I am still on Requip (.5 mg at noon and .5 at 6 pm), then 300 mg gabapentin at 10 pm. This is working right now. I still don't understand why it takes so long to reduce Requip but when I tried to go down to .5 mg 6 months ago, it was so difficult that I stayed at the level I am now. I was told I may need to reduce Requip by .25 mg every 6 months until I am completely off it. Dr. Buchfuhrer has an excellent presentation about RLS and different meds that you may be able to find. I have watched it several times and always learn additional information. I hope this is helpful. BarnGir1

I wish you didn't have to up your dosage. Have you ever tried pregabalin or any other medications? I hope the article helps you start a productive conversation with your doctor.
