Foods to Avoid.

I am really struggling again with my RLS. Currently now on gabapentin and oxycodone Hydrochloride Naloxone and not really making much difference. Discussion coming up soon with my Hospital Consultant.
I avoid cheese, caffeine, alcohol and chocolate (but fail on the chocolate front I'm afraid).
Are there any other food stuffs we should be avoiding/taking in small doses?
Thank you.
John

  1. Thank you so much for your lovely message Lori. I started a elimination diary just around Christmas and while filing it in religiously every day, nothing obvious has been highlighted yet.
I've had my iron levels checked a couple of times over the years and have been on iron supplements for a while now.
On treatments - I have had a few years on ropinirole, a few years on gabapentin, I've been on codeine and a few sleeping/antidepressant medications. Stated oxycodone spring.
Thank you for replying and caring. It is an awful "syndrome" and while invisible to friends and family it is a nightly from of quite severe torture.
    Best wishes,
    John

  2. Hi . You could try an elimination diet to see if eliminating anything else helps. Have you ever had your iron levels tested? Some people do find their symptoms improve with iron supplements, but that should be done with a doctor's supervision. Too much iron can cause serious health problems.
Did you try other treatments before oxycodone? Gabapentin is often a frontline drug for RLS, but oxycodone is usually a last resort. Here is an article about treatments for RLS: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. If oxycodone isn't helping and you find something in the article you haven't tried, it might be worthwhile to talk to your doctor about discontinuing it and trying something new. I hope this helps and that you get some relief. Warmly, Lori (Team Member)
