Has anyone used Qutenza to treat RLS?

I am a 77 year old female who has had RLS since a teenager but it was not identified as that until I was about 60 years old and began to keep me from sleeping which led to other health issues. At first Requip at 4 mg daily was a miracle drug but after about 4 years augmentation set in. With my physician's guidance I cut my dosage to .25 mg 1 x daily as I added Neurontin at 600 mg 3 xs daily. Now, about 3 years after this combination worked for calming my RLS, I am having significant side effects from the Neurontin. My physician asked me if I would consider using Qutenza for my neuropathy as well as to see if it provides relief from my RLS because he wants me to reduce my Neurontin. I am aware of the complications from taking Ropinerole at all but I have not been able to discontinue it and have found credible research stating that some people may have to continue to take it in low doses after having taken large doses for many years. I would appreciate any information regarding the use of Qutenza to treat RLS. Thank you. BarnGir1

  1. I was surprised by his suggestion but I know he is trying to help me find relief. We also discussed switching from gabapentin to Lyrica. First I am trying to reduce from 600 mg 3 xs daily to 400 3 xs daily. He thinks that may be enough to lessen my side effects (feeling fatigue, weepy, hungry) which just started in January although I have been on this does for about 2 years now. I have dealt with having to tweak my migraine meds over the years and RLS seems to require that same effort. I will keep you posted. Thanks. BarnGir1

  2. Hi . I know of some diabetics who swear by chili pepper creams for their neuropathy, but I've never heard of anyone using Qutenza for RLS. Here is an article from out type 2 diabetes community that discusses Qutenza for neuropathy: https://type2diabetes.com/clinical/neuropathy-treatment-options.
Can you continue on the lose dose of Ropinerole while using the Qutenza patch? Qutenza might be worth a try. I hope others in the community chime in with their experiences. Thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
