Long term RLS worsening

Hello,
Looking for help. I have had RLS since mid 30’s. I believe it is linked to anti depressants used for over a decade.
I am off those for 6+ months. Ow, but no relief. I take Pramipexole, but it seems to not be working well now.
I have been up 2 days now and am nit sure if/when I will be able to sleep. I am 52.
Any advice is so very appreciated. This is causing me to miss work,

  1. Hi . You must be horribly frustrated and eager to get back to work. Pramipexole is one of those drugs that can lead to augmentation. Do you think that might be the case for you? Here is an article that explains it: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/augmentation. Here is another article about treatment options: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/treatment. Some people have reported relief by using TENS units. They are inexpensive and don't require a prescription, though I would still ask your doctor before using one. Here is a recent forum post from someone who got relief from one: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/forums/i-stopped-my-rls-no-meds. They don't work for everyone, but maybe it will help while you get a new treatment plan figured out. Keep us posted if you don't mind. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)

    1. Thank you so much for the response!
I have tried tens unit, sadly, no help. But kinda fun, lol.
I am going to try Horizant (gabapentin based) though gabapentin has not helped in the past, maybe this formulation will. Worth a shot.
I do suspect augmentation from pramipexole, or just worsening RLS. I had high hopes getting off of antidepressants would make this go away, that did work in the past. But it’s been 9 months and no relief.
I see a neurologist in a couple weeks. Fingers crossed this is not something I will have to live with for the rest of my life.
      Thank you again!!!
