RLS and total knee replacement

I have had RLS for approximately 60 years, much worse in the last 5 - 10 years. I am scheduled for a total knee replacement sometime in the next few months and I am wondering if anyone else has gone thru that and how it affected the RLS. I have read articles that say it can make it worse.

  1. Hi . Everyone seems to react differently to surgery, including knee replacement. I hope others chime in here with their experiences, but keep in mind that you might have an entirely different experience. I hope yours goes well and that your RLS does not worsen.
What we do hear from many members, however, is that the hospital staff is often ignorant when it comes to RLS. So, it's really important to talk to your doctor and the hospital staff about your need for RLS treatment immediately after surgery and maybe let the doctor treating your RLS know you might need a change in medication after surgery. Here is an article about one person post-surgery experience that might interest you: https://restlesslegssyndrome.sleep-disorders.net/stories/rls-after-anesthesia.
Please keep us posted as to when you're having surgery and how it goes. I'll be thinking of you. - Lori (Team Member)
