My issue started after I was discharged from service, in the early 90s. I'm 60 years old now and it is worse than ever.
My symptoms rear their ugly head as soon as I try to relax or when I'm driving. Driving is the worst, you have limited leg room and you can't just stand up. When I have my attacks I am unable to keep my foot on the pedals or, if my foot and leg twitches the car goes into overdrive, which is why I am very grateful for cruise control. I even use it in the 35 and 45 mph zones. My wife always asks me if I have to go pee because my legs move back and forth so hard I shake the car. I often get leg and calf cramps from flexing my legs constantly.
If I run out of my medicine, pramapexol, I go into a serious panic attack because I know how bad my night is going to be. I just want to disconnect my torso from the hips down and let my legs go run so I can sleep. I have often woken up just as I start to doze off and gotten dressed and went walking around the block several times at 3-4 am.
I am constantly moving. I don't sit for long periods of time. It gets very uncomfortable for me. I will sit long enough to take the pressure of standing off my back then I'm up and at em again. I take 2 full tablets of my medicine, 40mg, and after approx. an hour my legs chill enough for me to fall asleep.
But, rest unassured....ha ha, I don't get quality sleep due to my wonderful COSA, chronic obstructive sleep apnea. The two go just so wonderful together....NOT! So if you ever happen to see me, I'll be the one in the restaurant, bar, movie theater, (Don't do movie theaters....duh!), sporting event, concert etc. looking like I am waddle dancing with the furniture!
